Part of an organic farming estate in the quiet mountain village of Avdou, these upmarket villas give you a taste of rural life that comes complete with creature comforts. After a hard day on the farm, you can take a refreshing dip in the pool or in the northcoast beaches which are just a 15km (9mi) drive away.Avdou Villas is close to the tacky north-coast resorts of Malia and Hersonissos, but they couldn't be more removed from the lager louts on quad bikes honing around on the beach. The 2.2-hectare (5.5 acre) estate is in the valley of Lagada near the Lasithi Plateau, amidst olive groves and orchards and a large organic vegetable crop. The kafeneio serves traditional Cretan cuisine made from the farm's organic produce and cooking lessons can also be provided. Guests are welcome to participate in farm activities. The villas are stylish, comfortable and well-appointed, with all the mod-cons such as hairdryer, Internet and satellite TV. There are superb mountain views from the spacious balconies. There is a decent pool for the summer, a jacuzzi and fireplaces for the winter. The studios sleep up to three people, while the sizeable one or two-bedroom houses sleep six.
