City explorers with a romantic streak will be utterly charmed by this 47-room refuge from the urban bustle. It's surrounded by an idyllic park and counts a gourmet restaurant among its bevy of assets. The secluded location is best reached by car.

A crackling fireplace greets you in the spacious lobby, housed in a 16th-century mill that has also seen stints as a ballroom and a popular restaurant. Dining well is again a priority here since the Pattis family renovated and enlarged the space. A casual bistro serves light international cuisine, but for a special treat book a table at the gourmet restaurant where Mario Pattis creates fanciful cuisine based on time-tested recipes from the Saxon court. All dishes are served on genuine Meissen porcelain. Afterwards you can retire to your large, elegant room with fresh fruit and flowers and nostalgic bathrooms with polished brass fixtures. You'll find this kind of attention to detail throughout, including an extraordinary spa that goes far beyond the usual sauna/steam set-up. Fatigue quickly fades during such pampering treatments as an Ayurvedic hot oil massage or a honey-cream bath.
