Address: An der alster 72-79 , Hamburg 20099, Germany Show on map
When you learn the luxury Hotel Atlantic was built in 1909 for embarking or disembarking cruise passengers, its ornate stairwells and wide hallways make perfect sense. While there are no sea-trunks or ladies in crinolines among its gold-and-white rooms these days, discerning guests with a taste for the best will love it.One of Hamburg's top traditional hotels, the Atlantic is the place where people come to be seen. Rich Russians strike deals under the high ceilings and chandeliers of the lobby bar, while maids ready the beautifully decorated rooms upstairs. The maritime theming is subtle, with globe patterns on the landings and blue carpet in the hallways, but the place does feel like a cruise liner. Ask for a 'modernised' room. They're still quite classic-looking, but miles ahead of the rather disappointing unrenovated rooms. Alternatively, if you want something especially high-tech, try for the black, white and grey BMW suite. The hotel is located at the point where the gentrified red light district meets the tree-lined Outer Alster lake. The sleek white-and-red Tsao Yang restaurant and the Art Deco Atlantic restaurant overlook the water, as do the best rooms.

It's easy to achieve anything you desire from the Atlantic. Taxis wait outside 24/7, while the main train station, the Kunsthalle (art gallery) and Deutsches Schauspielhaus (theatre) are all close. Most of all, colleagues and friends will happily come to you. There's plenty of entertainment within the hotel's elegant white walls, including an atrium garden, sauna, pool, spa and pilates studio.
Pierce Brosnan (or his stunt double) is seen scaling the wall of the Atlantic in Tomorrow Never Dies and the hotel now boasts a James Bond suite.
