A big and unremarkable-looking Hilton just south of the train station is surprisingly more pleasant inside than it looks from the outside. Rooms are big, bland and very comfortable.Paris Hilton didn't get to be an annoying celebrity because she is talented: she's famous because her family know a little something about the hotel business, and Leeds' own Hilton cash cow bucks no trends and does exactly what you'd expect from such a well-established name. There's a well-equipped business centre (although some of the advertised services, like 'telex' and 'typing' are curiously outdated); a big health club complete with swimming pool, sauna, steam room, solarium and whirlpool; and a decent restaurant and bar. The rooms all come with big double beds, good views through the hermetically sealed windows, decent bathrooms and cable TV. The staff is extremely courteous and professional, delivering prompt service with a friendly smile that belies the overwhelming corporate nature of the hotel. It doesn't look like it, but the Hilton is a welcoming hotel that endeavours to make you feel at home no matter who you are and how long you're staying, a quality that makes staying here just that little bit more special.

Get yourself through the underpass north of the hotel and back in the middle of the city as soon as possible. Bibi's Criterion is the best Italian restaurant in town, and a terrific spot to eat Nonna's pasta in a bling atmosphere straight out of Growing Up Gotti.
