Victorian grace at its opulent best is the theme of our favourite hotel in town, a brilliant conversion of the former Victorian Leeds and County Liberal Club. The elaborate wood panelling and stunning heraldic stained-glass windows in the public areas are matched by the contemporary but equally luxurious design of the bedrooms.Chic. Unique. Boutique. The pleasing rhyme of the Eton group's tagline might seem pretentious, but Quebec's is all of those things, in spades. It's a gorgeous hotel, designed to provide a truly luxurious experience for its guests, from the Egyptian cotton sheets and duck down duvets of its compact, classy townhouse singles (which have large double beds) to the breathtaking suites, named after famous British sweets (ah, the word play). Two of them, the Sherbert and Licorice suites - have dramatic spiral staircases uniting their split levels. All of the rooms come equipped with the standard top-range trappings: flat-screen TVs, DVDs and a host of exclusive toiletries. The staff are top-notch, keen to help and provide whatever they can to facilitate your stay; perhaps a set of ear plugs would come in handy if you're on a lower floor - one minor complaint is that the street noise can be a bit loud.

The Sous Le Nez En Ville restaurant below the hotel might have the weirdest name around - Below the Nose in Town? - but its fine Franco-British fare is beyond reproach. Classy, elegant and utterly delicious, you won't have to go far to get a great meal.
