Lonely Planet review

Presidio is to lodging what H&M is to shopping: a cheap, trendy alternative. Stylin' on State Street just north of downtown, this funky little number with friendly staff is a great budget choice. Is that origami hanging from my A-frame ceiling? And what's up with those artsy black-and-white prints on the wall? Artsy touches spruce up this older, otherwise ho-hum property and are just eclectic enough to forgive the tired tile showers and blue-grey industrial carpets. Things get even funkier on the oh-so-chill sundeck, with mod-orange lounge chairs and tiny speakers pumping out rock (but not too loud). The sundeck is the best spot for soaking in stunning Santa Ynez mountain views, though city types may prefer to scope the action below on bustling State Street. Parking is complimentary as is wi-fi, though the latter is only available in a few rooms. All welcome, but the motel draws a younger crowd.
