At this modular sleep station you can customise your level of comfort. The base rate buys just the room, and then you pick and choose from a menu of optional amenities, including television, kitchen use, daily cleaning, parking and breakfast. Small extra fees are charged for each.

Your young hosts, Katja and Sasha, have poured their hearts and cash into spinning four floors of a former office building into a modern hostel-hotel hybrid. It's an ingenious concept, really, making their place suitable for all types of travellers, from penny-pinchers to amenity hounds. The location is excellent too, a mere 400m from the train station and close to blockbuster sights, yet on a fairly quiet street. The Internet caf? downstairs makes keeping in touch with the folks back home a snap. Most of the 24 rooms are good-sized and functionally furnished, sort of IKEA-style. Three rooms share two gender-segregated bathrooms. All are non-smoking but you're free to light up in the breakfast room or in the fully-equipped kitchen. Kitchen use is ?1 per person and includes free coffee and tea.
