This popular hotel next to the castle and the Tyne bridges brings a little old-style elegance to its contemporary facilities. You'll struggle to find a more convenient location in town - it's within walking distance of pretty much everywhere central and in full view of the castle and Quayside.

The Vermont is a big, 100-plus room hotel with all mod cons and a classic look, almost 1930s Manhattan. The rooms are all large and extremely comfortable; the contemporary furnishings and warm colour schemes may not win any sleek designer awards, but they're more than enough to make you feel at home. And if that doesn't do the trick then the staff will do their best, for this is one of the friendliest groups of people you'll find in town. The restaurant serves up a fine meal of mixed delights, but it's the smorgasbord-for-breakfast that really takes the biscuit, a perfect antidote to what was (hopefully) a good night out. And did we mention the views? Make sure you get a room overlooking the Tyne Bridge - it doesn't get any more Newcastle than that.
