Set in its own parkland just 10km (6mi) north of the city centre, Newcastle's very own Marriott is pure calm. It is tucked away in the middle of a gorgeously wooded parkland and its brightly coloured rooms rooms are kitted out to suit all your needs, whether they be business or pleasure.

The Marriott-only beds are especially comfortable, with their fluffy pillows and designer duvets covering the pure down comforters. The leisure facilities are top rate and include a fully equipped gym, tennis courts, swimming pool, sauna, solarium, squash courts. The Park Restaurant downstairs is also excellent, a far cry from the usual fare cobbled together in other hotels and well worth checking out. This is not the kind of hotel you'd want to stay in if your purpose is Newcastle's nightlife. But if you're about a bit of tranquillity and luxury in the Northeast, this is just the ticket. There is another Marriott here, 10km (6mi) south of Newcastle in southern Gateshead, but this one gets our overall vote for the setting and that little bit of extra sophistication.
