Once home to Oscar Wilde and now one of Oxford's best accommodation options, this 17th-century boutique hotel is a wonderfully quirky place to stay. Oozing charm and individual style, it blends just the right amount of period character with modern luxury and an unmistakably chic air.

Log fires, creaky floors, mismatched furniture and eclectic art are the first things to hit you at the Old Parsonage, a place just dripping with character and old world charm. Expanded during the Victorian period and again more recently, the building is now a warren of passages and staircases leading to the tastefully restrained rooms. Handmade beds and ancient wood panelling sit alongside flat-screen TVs, soft lighting and sleek contemporary decor. The marble bathrooms are sparkling if a little compact. The small bar and restaurant are always buzzing, there's jazz on Friday nights, summer barbecues in the front courtyard and a monitored rooftop terrace where the waiters arrive just as your glass needs refilling. It's a simply gorgeous place to stay, with attentive but not overbearing service and parking for the lucky guests who arrive early to nab the vacant spaces.
