This hotel combines clean lines and urban chic in its stylishly sleek rooms. It's got a wonderful location slap bang in the centre of town and, if you're lucky, views of Oxford's dreaming spires from your bed.

Designer furnishings, imposing modern artworks and marble bathrooms give the rooms here a decidedly contemporary feel but rather than creating a sense of harsh minimalism, the soft lighting, lush fabrics and natural tones give them a luxurious, understated elegance. You'll get your broadband, CD player and large-screen TV but it's the warm colours, soft leathers and oak furnishings that leave a more long-lasting impression. Downstairs, a series of black-and-white photos lines the walls of the foyer while next door in the hotel's bar and restaurant, Quod, it's bright and brash modern art that oversees the diners. Buzzing every night of the week, this is Oxford's best Italian restaurant and has a lovely little outdoor courtyard with trickling fountains for warm nights.
