Address: Judengasse 15 rudolfskai 28 , Salzburg 5020, Austria Show on map
Located on the busy backstreet of Judengasse, this smartly converted coaching inn is one of the oldest in Salzburg, mixing top-end style with lashings of old-world charm. It's bang in the heart of the Altstadt, so the city's main attractions are right on your doorstep, but the central location comes at a price.Patterned rugs, upholstered furniture, glass display cases and terracotta tiles greet you as you enter the elegant lobby, from where a glass-roofed staircase leads to the upstairs bedrooms and the Restaurant Symphonie on the first floor. As you'd expect from a five-star chain hotel, most of the rooms have been thoroughly overhauled and contain all the mod-cons - posh TVs, marbled bathrooms and comfy furnishings - although the general decor tends more towards functionality than finesse. If you can afford them, the swish master suites offer a more upmarket experience, complete with half-timbered ceiling, antique furniture and space to spare. The silver-service restaurant boasts sweeping views across the Salzach River and a menu stuffed with Austrian specialities, and there's a pretty interior courtyard where you can enjoy a buffet breakfast during summer. Pricey, but plush.

The hotel is next door to one of the strangest shopping experiences in the city. 'Easter in Salzburg' offers a mind-boggling range of hand-painted eggs, decorated with anything from Easter chicks and summer flowers to Halloween hags. They make a great quirky souvenir, but getting them home intact might be a challenge. Yuletide trinkets can be found at 'Christmas in Salzburg' across the road.
Parts of the building date back to 1377, making this one of the oldest buildings in the Altstadt.
