Well placed on Uyeasound, this comfortable hostel represents some of the best value for money on Unst. For independent travellers wanting to get this far north, it's also convenient; the bus stops right out the front.

With only 35 beds and a maximum of ten bunks to a room, this space always feels intimate. The common areas are open to non-residents (especially those who miss the ferry) so there's a friendly spirit of hospitality throughout. The best place to wait for the next ferry is in the glorious golden stained-glass conservatory that looks out over the water. If you're travelling in a group or family, room 2 has a hotel-feel complete with en suite, dresser and cot. The newish kitchen makes self-catering a breeze and you can do your laundry here for a pound. Having no TV adds to the feeling of getting away from it all and creates more conversation between guests. There's also room to pitch tents in the verdant garden.
