Lonely Planet review

More peaceful than backpacker crash pads on Lemon Rd, this friendly HI-managed hostel inside a converted aquamarine-colored apartment building has fewer restrictions than the HI norm - most importantly, there's no lockout and no curfew. You'll find all the usual hostel amenities here, including community kitchen internet terminals, and boogie boards to borrow. For travelers more interested in clean rooms than hooking up with newfound drinking buddies, HI-Waikiki is an oasis of calm. Staff make sure things run smoothly, and if you have quiet roommates, you'll probably get a sound night's sleep here. Single-sex dormitories, with a total of 63 beds, and five basic studio private rooms are all spacious and have en-suite bathrooms. Shared hostel facilities include a kitchen, TV/DVD lounge, laundry facilities, internet terminals and free lockers (just bring your own padlock). Advance reservations are essential. Guests must present a government-issued photo ID upon check-in; there's a seven-day maximum stay. Smoking and alcohol are prohibited. Limited parking, which is more than reasonably priced, is first-come, first-served.
