On a peaceful lane in Santa Teresa, Castelinho 38 is a handsome guesthouse with high ceilings, wood floors and a light, airy design. It was built in 1886, and has a decorative castle-like façade, with attractive rooms and an outdoor terrace overlooking a garden.Because accommodations in the neighborhood tend toward the deluxe (like Mama Ruisa) or the budget traveller (like Rio Hostel), Castelinho is an excellent and rare mid-range option. It has 10 guestrooms, each named after a tropical plant found in the hotel's garden. Accommodations have a clean design with polished wood floors and simple but elegant furnishings. The best rooms (the master suites) add a bit more space to the equation, with locally made artwork adding a warm touch. Although all rooms have private bathrooms, some of these lie outside the room. There's also a large lounge space, furnished only with beanbags, giving it a somewhat unfinished appearance.
