A little slice of Las Vegas comes to the Monte Carlo beachfront at this self-contained oasis of indulgence, situated on a private promontory just to the east of plage du Larvotto. Walking into the massive hotel complex feels like entering a miniature kingdom within a kingdom.

The top-drawer resort boasts more on-site facilities than your average modestly-sized city. The extravagant amenities are more than matched by the over-the-top decor, which mixes futuristic touches with classic Riviera style: Mock-Grecian arches, Rococo pillars, colonnaded walkways and Italianate porticoes sit happily alongside modern artwork and minimalist furniture. Rooms are stylish and contemporary, decked out with slate floors, blonde woods and ice-white linen, offset by understated colour schemes of cappuccino, cream and lemon. Smart features in every room include huge plasma screen TVs, a film and music server and a video connection point so you can watch back your home movies. But it's the endless extras that really make this place special - personal favourites include the fantastically swish Cinq Mondes Spa and the dreamy sand-bottomed swimming pool.
