A rambling charmer high in the hills, La Nona is a great option central to the hotspots of Cerro Alegre. Guests love the personal attention here, which includes owner Rene's helpful hill maps and monthly adventure excursions.

The happy crayon colors of this corrugated tin house are the first good sign. Knock the brass hand and your host will lean out the second-story window to greet you. Colored glass in swirling patterns, low lights and magenta walls set the funky-friendly vibe. The spacious bedrooms (soon to have private baths) are considerably more subdued, some with floral chintz and blocky furniture. Real coffee and wheat bread will help you rear out of bed. English is spoken. Book early, as it tends to fill up.
