This retro-style B&B is a thoughtful home away from home. Gorgeous inside and out, its best feature is a sprawling patio overlooking the city and the bay. Look for the big yellow house cresting Cerro Alegre.

This classic granny-style home was inherited by a young artist who has left it entirely intact. The result is original; an energetic, young guesthouse in a quirky setting. Nostalgia buffs will adore the living room's bolted-leather armchairs, antique piano and textured leaf pattern walls soft-lit by precious little chandeliers. The bedrooms, some with balcony access, include marble-topped dressers and snug single beds. There are no double beds. All rooms have shared bathrooms. A one-eyed tabby accompanies your comings and goings. And while the hills are full of views, part the French doors in the evening to glimpse the sparkling nightscape.
