Offering everything from playboy spa suites to luxury Thai villas, with decor taking you from East Bombay to Trocadero, the Davis has taken the concept of 'boutique' to a whole new level. Trying too hard? You bet, but this place has eclectic style in spades, mixing tradition and ultramodernity.This mix can border on schizophrenic at times - the main hotel area, with its Escher-like design and flashes of gold and silk, might well date very quickly. The suites are equally prone to multiple personality disorder: you can choose from a variety of exquisitely over-the-top decoration themes including 'Burmese', 'Florida' and 'Versace'. The standard rooms are more sedate, in contemporary Thai style. The 'Corner Wing' (separated from the main hotel by a shopping area) is modern and arty, with remarkable (though oddly arranged) suites whose main feature is a giant Jacuzzi room that just screams 'after party'. In yet another section, the magnificent 'Baan Davis' has traditional and secluded Thai villas set around a feng-shui swimming pool. Ultimate privacy and beauty are assured.
