The designer upgrade of the 19th-century Palacio Vedruna has resulted in one of the city's most stylish hotels. It houses an art collection that could grace any gallery of modern art, while rooms are large and luxurious.Where else can you find a hotel that boasts original Warhols and a floor of ancient Egyptian art? Such distinguished works set the tone and the lobby is filled with North African mosaics, marble statues and leather couches. After such an introduction, the rooms (some are duplex) are less a letdown than a toning down in style. Parquet floors, colourful art prints (sadly no originals) and comfortable furniture are the order of the day, while some rooms boast a Jacuzzi and even a sauna. Indeed, few rooms are alike - some are strikingly modern, while others cater to more classic tastes in luxury. The hotel's location is also terrific but you'd scarcely realise that you're in one of Barcelona's busiest areas - the rooms are so quiet.
