There's a whiff of the Mediterranean about this suburban accommodation, a boutique hotel with a splash of terracotta and stucco in its decor. Rooms are stylish and offer plenty of comfort.

The Villa Angela's neighbourhood may look a bit dowdy, but this butterscotch-coloured hotel cheers the place up. Though it's a 15-minute bus ride from central Gdansk, it provides a standard of affordable midrange accommodation that's hard to find further in. Its elegant rooms are tastefully furnished with reproduction antiques and dark green carpets, and most have balconies with sweeping views from the hotel's hilly position. As you might expect, the bathrooms are equally impressive, and there's parking space available for those who prefer to drive within the city.
