Sometimes getting into character pays off. When this large hotel's rooms were designed, the owner conducted extensive research, staying in his own rooms, handpicking the furnishings, generally taking the perspective of the sharp-eyed traveller. It's all come together nicely - these apartment-sized hotel rooms are minimalist yet warm and comfortable. The colour scheme is carried throughout: chalk white and chocolate brown, with flourishes of solid red and orange here and there, chiffon-like khaki bedroom curtains, bold contemporary paintings in the halls. All one-bedrooms have balconies, and rooms on Barrack St tend to have more natural light (not always easy to obtain in Perth). Most rooms have baths, so you're free to flutter a few rose petals about then dry yourself with a big fluffy white towel. The executive two-bedroom is as big as a suburban backyard. All up, a top spot.
