Murals sweep and splash across the adobe exterior, and a quiet, cherry tree-shaded courtyard offsets the bustle from Cerrillos Rd. Here you'll find smoke-free and Spartan rooms; a spacious and well-equipped kitchen; and always interesting lodging companions. The hostel accepts cash only.

It's sometimes hard to distinguish between staff and the visitors here - everyone looks right at home. While the owner can be prickly, this place has an earthy vibe that makes it worth the hang time. The chores freak some people out, but they take only a few minutes and underscore your connection to the clannish atmosphere. Having no TV here means that people actually talk. Distractions include a courtyard grill, a library of books, a communal meal made from sometimes dodgy (and often fabulous) free food or a mingling of the (edible) contents of any number of rucksacks, backpacks and suitcases. Stay in a dorm or a private room; linens are provided; reservations are accepted only by mail.
