Lonely Planet review

Located smack-bang in the centre of Hamra, this is a long-standing favourite for many travellers familiar with Beirut. Now with a new coat of paint, it's even better value than before.

Last time we visited this hotel it was starting to appear on the wrong side of worn-in. Now fully renovated, this old Beirut campaigner is looking in much better shape. The white marble lobby is looking spic and span and the amusing Mr Pickwick Pub still looks delightfully retro. Rooms are excellent for the price and include a mini-bar, hairdryer, safety deposit box and satellite TV. While it's a very conservative (and inoffensive) makeover in terms of decor, the beds are comfortable and the large suites are great value in this price bracket. As the price includes breakfast and parking, this is one of the best deals in the Hamra area.
