Recently refitted with bold new decor, the Malone Lodge offers luxurious, corporate-style rooms in a quiet setting. A contemporary but classic design runs throughout, but the hotel lacks a certain character and style that is evident in other Belfast options in this price range.

The homely rooms at the Malone Lodge are cosy and try hard to merge business needs with designer style but the bold interior can be a bit overwhelming. Heavy quilted bedspreads and curtains are made from black fabric with gold-floral outlines or heavy cream-and-brown stripes which can make the standard rooms feel quite small. Executive rooms are larger and feature great bathrooms, big comfy beds and modem points, but never quite make it away from generic international standards with textured plaster ceilings and badly chosen pictures on the walls. The hotel has all the usual extras such as fitness room and sauna and also offers a choice of one-, two- and three-bedroom self-catering apartments kitted out with small but well-equipped kitchens and spacious lounge areas.
