Creeping through the gate of the Bienvenue, low hanging leaves rubbing your shoulders and flowers spilling onto the path to the door, it's obvious this place is going to be something special. The grand Victorian house is home to an upmarket B&B, with beautiful period-style rooms strewn with antiques.

Despite the lurid-green carpet and floral curtains in the resident's lounge, the elegant styling, leather, button-back Chesterfield sofas and copious antiques of Bienvenue's public rooms are more like a small hotel than a typical Belfast B&B. Upstairs there's a mix of bedrooms to suit almost any taste, though not all have ensuite bathrooms so it's worth checking when making your booking. The best rooms are those on the first floor, where big bay windows, original fireplaces, imposing antique beds (including a half-tester in one room) and crisp, white linens dominate. One room has been newly renovated in a simple fashion with slick modern furniture and laminate flooring. On the top floor the cosy rooms stick to old-fashioned styles. There are hardwood floors, traditional rugs and antique furniture, and the rich, dark wallpaper gives them a very different feel to the rooms on the first floor.
