Possibly the best value for money in town, the Royal is central, cheap and clean. They won't win any design awards but the rooms are simply decorated and tidy (although new carpets would be a good idea). A popular place with budget travelers, peacekeepers and agency staff on their breaks from Bosnia and Kosovo.

The Royal is about the only central budget hotel that's consistently popular outside the busy conference times. It offers much the same facilities (which is to say distinctly average ones) as other central, formerly state-owned places but at something like half the price of the others. It's also buzzy and busy, making it a good place to hang out and maybe meet fellow travelers. The rooms are basic but fine, the TVs have cable and the windows are double glazed, keeping most, but not all, of the noise from the street-facing rooms. The rear-facing ones are probably a better bet, especially in summer since there's no air-con. There's a bar/cafe that opens till late downstairs and a somewhat stuffy restaurant in the basement where you'll sometimes catch live music.
