Okay, so you want a view of Bryggen? Forty of the 210 rooms here look out across the water to Bryggen. It's the best view to wake up to in Bergen and worth the price tag. Rooms are extremely comfortable. Book ahead to guarantee a harbour view.

Yes, this hotel belongs to a chain, but don't let that put you off. The hotel has its own cruise boat, a cigar and cognac salon and the ice machines in the corridors - a nice touch suggesting the hotel's understanding that sipping a whisky-on-the-rocks on your balcony as the sun sets is one of travel's great moments. Every mod-con you can think of has already been thought of and placed in the stylish rooms (including wi-fi) and the location is terrific for those who like to be close to the city centre but without the clamour.
