Lonely Planet review

Stylistically challenged in a lacklustre part of town, at first glance the Fountain Court isn't the best option. But it has buckets more character than a chain hotel, a handy location and incredibly friendly service, making it a good fall back option if all you need is an affordable place to stay. The Fountain Court is a bit like your dear old granny's house. It's pretty much unchanged since its heyday in the early '80s and stuck in a bit of a decor time warp where heavily patterned carpets, lace tablecloths, tasselled lamps and button-backed headboards are still all the rage. But just like at your granny's, the old fashioned atmosphere and faded furnishings are balanced out by a real family feeling and incredibly friendly service. The rooms are clean and well kept, if a little tired; there's plenty of parking and it's only a 20-minute walk or a short hop on the bus to town. If you just need a place to crash after a night on the tiles, it'll do just fine.
