Address: Weihergasse 4, City centre , Berne CH-3005, Switzerland Show on map
Removed from ambient city noise, this hostel sits pretty by the river. It is large and friendly, although the building is not particularly new.Quintessentially Swiss-efficient and squeaky clean, this 50-year-old hostel really warrants no complaints. It might well be a concrete block, but its interior is a smart white and furnishings appear fairly new. Three meals a day are served in its bright, modern dining room - once the community hall where village dances took place - and a good stock of essentials (toothpaste, batteries, tissues etc) is sold at reception. Family games to play abound; there are two computers to surf on the mezzazine; and table football, table tennis and a BBQ for sunny-day sausage grilling are standard outdoor features in summer. Dorms are mixed and separate; beds are cheapest in number 540, home to 20 beds, and the most expensive room in the house is the 'honeymoon suite', a double with twin beds pushed together and private shower.
