Backpackers usually head here first. It has a great lounge that's cosy and very sociable (think comfy couches and a big TV playing nightly movies). The simple dorms and rooms have firm mattresses, fluffy duvets and sinks. Self-caterers will appreciate the kitchen. The bar downstairs is another plus.

Enviably placed in an old building on one of the two main streets in Bern's Old Town, the Glocke's location could not be more central - or more buzzing on the street-noise front. Dorms are mixed male/female and sport lino floors, bunk beds, writing desks, lockers, washbasins and not much else. For those seeking guaranteed snore-free sleep and/or with an aversion to finding someone else's hair in the shower, the hostel also has double rooms with private bathrooms. Rates include sheets but towels cost a few francs extra.
