Budget digs don't get more atmospheric than at this former Coast Guard station perched amid undulating dunes in the Cape Cod National Seashore. It's so remote that wild turkeys are the only traffic along the road. And it's but a stroll to a quiet beach.

Choose between single-sex or coed dorms. However, if you want to score a view, the women's dorm on the second floor is the prize. So, ladies, you just might not want to bunk in the basement with your boyfriend this time. A view certainly helps since the room decor is spartan: cement floors, bunk beds and a fan. The kitchen is big and the dune views through the picture windows even bigger. A pancake and egg sandwich breakfast is included in the rates, as are use of linens and a guest computer. Convenience isn't part of the package if you don't have your own wheels, since the remote location is at the end of a dead-end road. The nearest bus stop is about 2mi (3.2km) away!
