The precious heart of this sumptuous 18th-century mansion with vast rolling green park and the best-ever Lake-Geneva view is its restaurant. But fortunately for wealthy guests there are a handful of lovely rooms tucked up top. Book as far ahead as you can.Built as a private summer residence, its culinary prowess on the Geneva dining scene took root in 1900. The City of Geneva bought the place in 1931 and it has not looked back since the 60s when gastronomic creations cooked up by talented chefs really got tongues wagging; they still do. Sail in a sunflower-yellow 'seagull' (the city boats that zig-zag around the lake) from Eaux-Vives to La Perle du Lac, where the Romans built ornate thermal baths. Another beautiful park with an abundance of flowers, it sports gob-stopping views of Mont Blanc on clear days and is home to the city's Musée d'Histoire des Sciences (tel: 022 418 50 60; Rue de Lausanne 128).
Parc des Eaux-Vives is famous for its rhododendrons, given to the city by the Netherlands as a gift to say thank you for its humanitarian help during WWII.
