Address: Schoenaugasse 53 , Graz 8010, Austria Show on map
This thoroughly modern hotel stands out in suburban Graz with some quirky touches. Individually decorated rooms, contemporary art installations, an indoor pool and top-class service combine to make the Augarten one of the better choices in town. The Augarten broke onto Graz's hotel scene in August 2000. It is sleek, modern and purpose-built and gives the feel of being on a luxury liner. One reason for this is that corridors run along the exterior of the building much like on the deck of a ship. Rooms are decorated with ultra-modern minimalist furniture, have wooden parquet floors and, like the rest of this design and art hotel, are in light shades of grey or off-white tones with small explosions of colour in details. Some rooms come replete with a small kitchen niche and refrigerator, and end rooms on each level have windows on two walls, complementing the bright feel throughout. The roof terrace offers views to Schlossberg (the neighbourhood is earthy rather than enticing), and swimmers will love the small indoor swimming pool, which has its own counter-current for swimming endless laps.

The immediate area around the Augarten is bland, but in addition to enjoying views from the hotel terrace or cruising through the building to view the 140 or more works of art, nip next door at least once during your stay for a meal or snack at Magnolia, a very highly rated restaurant serving Austro-international cuisine.
The owner's private art collection hangs around the hotel, including a fabulous oil of the German folk-pop singer Heino.
