Back in 1887 Mrs Bronson set up a 10-room boarding house on this leafy eight-hectare plot. Over the decades, the West End has grown in size and stature and changed hands several times until it now stands as one of Bangalore's premier heritage hotels. Mrs Bronson would be awfully proud!Paths weave around the West End's luscious garden, planted with 54 varieties of trees, past the original 19th-century mansion and villas. There's a whole range of rooms, some more recently renovated than others; the pick of the bunch is the premier category with wooden flooring, more contemporary furnishings and 42-inch plasma TV screens, plus verandahs overlooking the gardens. Watch out for a larger pool in the future (the current one is on the small side) and for an upgrade to the uninspiring gym and spa. Right on target are the elegantly modern lobby, 24-hour poolside restaurant Mynt and the romantic, semi-alfresco Blue Ginger, the city's only Vietnamese restaurant, which serves deliciously authentic food.
