The country's oldest continually operating hotel, Parker House has modern but charming guest rooms. Public spaces are elegant and handsome, as you might imagine for a place where John F Kennedy made his first speech and proposed to his future wife, Jackie.

Even though the cold facts won't keep you warm at night, history and Parker House go hand in hand like fresh-out-of-the-oven Parker House Rolls and melting butter. To wit: Malcom X was a busboy here; Ho Chi Minh was a pastry chef here; Boston Cream Pie, the official state dessert, was created here; and the word 'scrod' (catch of the day) was coined here. From the doormen outside to the warmth of the reception area, this place feels different. As for the rooms, they're handsome and elegant; many have views of downtown. Even though the lovely 1856 establishment sits smack dab in the middle of town, you may find yourself lazily luxuriating in your deep bathroom tub. The clubby, political gathering place, the hotel's Last Hurrah bar, is a cosy spot to settle back with a bowl of warm nuts and an even warmer cocktail.
