Without the Galeazzi-Basily hospitality, this elegant home would still be a winner, but that extra ingredient makes it worth the breathless uphill trudge from town.

On a quiet side street, this snug two-story home looks lived in and loved. That's thanks to Alejandro and Frances, the warm hosts who hang out and chat and help with trip planning. The house overflows with plants and books, giving it a lived-in feel - no minimalist haunt, this. Two upstairs doubles have twin beds and a shared bathroom. For added privacy, check out the modern cabins out back. Both are comfortable, with a double bed and two twin beds, bath tub and kitchenette. Another larger cabin works its alpine charm with an ample loft bedroom overhanging a comfortable living room, kitchen and bathroom. Surrounded by trim green grass, each offers peace and privacy. The family speaks English, Italian, French and Portuguese. Book ahead.
