Address: La barra , Punta del este 20000, Uruguay
This recent addition to Punta's hostel scene is growing fast. They've just put in a bar, a swimming pool and several new dorms. Surfers will appreciate the location only 600m (0.3mi) from Bikini Beach, home to some of the area's best waves.A member of Uruguay's upscale 'El Viajero' hostel chain, this place offers nice amenities including wi-fi, a well-equipped kitchen, a bright and breezy dining area and a barbecue terrace. There are some private suites in addition to the dorms. All rooms have air-con and heating and there's a fireplace in the common room for those windy nights. Bikes, scooters and surfboards are available for rent and the hostel runs its very own surf school. The hostel's isolated setting in a residential suburb can be challenging for those without a vehicle. It's a 400m (0.2mi) walk to the main road, plus five minutes by bus to La Barra, or 20 to Punta del Este.

Grab a board and head out to nearby Bikini Beach, or rent a bike and cruise into La Barra, where you can have lunch on the terrace at the ultra-cool Baby Gouda (tel: 771874; Ruta 10, km161) deli and café. In summer, the region's manic nightlife is a major attraction, and micros run half-hourly from the road in front of the hostel to La Barra and downtown Punta del Este.
