Veliko Târnovo's original hostel is still its most laid-back, offering simple, clean dorms up in the old quarter of Varosha. It's a relaxing place and well managed, with free pick-ups from the train and bus stations and sometimes day trips to neighbouring attractions.Hiker's has two dorms, one with four beds, the other with 10, plus one double room: they all have simple wood floors and a rustic charm, though can get a bit cold in winter. The bathrooms are down an outside corridor, one on the upper level, the other downstairs. The hostel is enclosed within a gate, and the patio inside also has two tents for aspiring campers. Breakfast is included and served in the reception area, which also has a computer with internet (and a general wireless connection). Laundry service is also provided. The never-ending supply of beer in the glass fridge can best be enjoyed on the colourful couches of the upper balcony, where there are panoramic views. The hostel is a five-minute walk from the Samovodska Charshiya Complex, but since it's uphill you should call for a free pick-up from the train/bus stations.
