Right in the lower confines of the old quarter (Varosha), the Pink Bakery is an offbeat guesthouse run by two Brits and unmistakeably located in a pink building. A friendly and relaxing place with colourful, slightly camp decor and bedding, it has shared but modern bathrooms.

The Pink Bakery is one of the newer and more interesting places in town, a smarter budget option than Veliko Târnovo's hostels - although the shared nature of the baths does keep it from being a true guesthouse. However, there's a spacious self-contained apartment with air-conditioning, satellite TV and bright furnishings for those who want more luxury. In general, it's an airy, well-maintained place that gets a slightly older and more discerning crowd, looking for value for money yet also seeking a convivial, communal atmosphere. The old streets of Varosha offer great walking opportunities, and the nearby Samovodska Charshiya, just below the guesthouse, is the best place for unique, handmade souvenirs of Târnovo.
