Have I entered a film-set? Or is this really my hotel? Everything in the Walburg is on such a magnificent scale that it's sometimes hard to be sure. Extraordinarily vast doors lead you into the great hallway with marble floors and statue niches. And that's just the carriageway.

From the opulent carriageway the hotel's almost overpowering grandeur unfolds before you, the effect softened by the refreshing use of white and more white in the soaring public areas. The focal point of the building is a three-storey atrium with a marble stairway sweeping up to the grandest first-floor rooms. Here you'll find the vast senior suites with their golden fabrics, CEO-style desks, ornate moulded ceilings and bathroom doors that are over four metres tall. The 2nd-floor rooms have a blue colour scheme and white marble bathrooms. The top-floor rooms use rich crimson tones and have whitewashed old beams in the spacious corner rooms. Furniture is in pseudo-Louis-XVI style, and the bathrooms are in pink marble.
