This fabulous family-owned marvel is packed with antique and designer fittings and a superb view over one of Bruges's most picturesque canal corners. The almost unique half-timbered facade is a photogenic attraction in itself. Watch the envious photo-snapping tourists on their cruise barges below.
The Bourgondisch Cruyce manages to combine a vibrant sense of classical heritage with a sumptuous feel for modern comfort. There's a strong taste for bare wood, retouched with a modern-yet-aged powdery grey-white wash. There are real Persian carpets, Louis XIV chairs and fresh orchids on the reception desk. The brilliant old wooden floor of the lounge was rescued and imported from an old castle. The 16 rooms have top-quality beds by Vispring while fabrics and wallpapers are Ralf Lauren. Some bathrooms have stylish new Philippe Starck fittings. Others have antique basins in scalloped red marble. To protect all the antiques, pets and smoking are not allowed. Children also, are not especially encouraged. Breakfast is served in the brilliant canalside tearoom. When picking a room, note that 'Classic' is code for that superb canal view.
