Lonely Planet review

A throwback to traditional European pensions before the rise and rise of hostels, seasoned travellers flock to the friendly, family-run Hôtel Sabina near Place Madou for its excellent value and old-world atmosphere - it's refreshing to find places like this still exist.Situated in a quaint residential quarter with lots of little cafe-lined squares and parks nearby to explore, all 24 bright, airy rooms have neat, compact private bathrooms with hairdryers. The rooms have been spruced up with fresh paint and floating timber floors - some, in true pension style, have mismatched furnishings and carpet, but all are spotlessly clean and the beds are extra-comfy with firm mattresses and freshly laundered sheets. Amenities include TVs, wardrobes, small writing desks, and oversize windows that wash the rooms in natural light. A typical buffet breakfast is included. Street parking is possible and there's also an undercover garage for 15.00/day - book in advance. But once there you won't need wheels - Hôtel Sabina's close to the EU quarter and an easy 10-minute stroll to the city centre and Grand Place.
