Located 5 miles from the city center, this is more like Burning Man than a regulation youth hostel. Campers share a grassy field overlooking Grewingk Glacier and an outdoor cooking pavilion patrolled by roosters; inside are well-worn private rooms and dorms. Some people will be put off by the filth and foul odors; others will find this to be one of those 'experiences' they'd dreamed of having when they hit the trail for Alaska.
