A longtime key player on the Budapest budget accommodation scene, the Caterina Hostel has moved from Oktogon in the past year or so but continues to offer reliable and cheap accommodation just a short distance away in the heart of Pest.

The hostel, now being managed by the previous owner's daughter and son-in-law, offers 27 beds in a 3rd-floor walk-up apartment above the celebrated Muvész Cinema. It overlooks a delightful - and unusually large - central courtyard. Accommodation is in one of spotless three dorms for between six and 10 people or in a private room for up to three people. There's an ultra-modern kitchen available to guests and you can store your gear at the hostel for a nominal sum while travelling elsewhere. Caterina can also organise accommodation in a fully equipped five-person apartment in the same area. This is among the more personable hotels in Budapest.
