This hotel at the foot of Castle Hill is at the end of a narrow cul-de-sac in Víziváros (Watertown) and set back just far away enough from Fo utca, Buda's appropriately named 'Main St', for noise not to be a problem. A total renovation a few years ago gave the Carlton a cleaner and fresher look and an extra star.

The pick of the crop among its 95 guestrooms spread over eight floors (and several townhouses) are rooms 711 to 716, which lead into a small courtyard garden - a real oasis in urban Buda. Choose a room with a shower or a bathtub. If you're keen to divide your time equally between Buda (especially Castle Hill) and Pest, this is an excellent choice: Chain Bridge leading to Pest is just metres on foot to the southeast, and the Royal Steps and the funicular taking you to the Castle are equidistant to the southwest.
