It may not look like much from the riverfront, but once you've entered this hotel you'll see: this is a luxury 'art' hotel. With 165 rooms, and set along the Danube in Buda, it wouldn't look out of place in London or New York.

What makes this place unique is that it cobbles together a modern seven-story building, with views of the Castle and the Danube, and a baroque 18th-century building; they're separated by a leafy courtyard-cum-atrium. While the rooms on the 1st floor of the baroque wing are quite large, they look into the courtyard; the choicest rooms are on floors 1 to 3 of the new building and some have balconies facing the Danube. We love the stainless steel washbasins and decorative wrought-iron frames of the bathrooms. Works by American artist Donald Sultan are on display throughout the hotel - on the carpets, on the china, as artwork - with a recurring gambling theme at play, featuring dominoes, playing cards and the like.
