Le Meridien is sometimes overlooked in favour of its somewhat more 'flashy 'sibling next door, the Kempinski Corvinus, but many people consider it the height of luxury and rate it as the city's top five-star property.

Housed in an historic building dating from the turn of the last century (though you'd be hard-pressed to tell that from the outside) and once housing the police, Le Meridien's public areas and guestrooms are positively dripping in brocade, velvet and needlepoint, with French polished furniture laid end to end (think royalty over rock star). Some of the 218 rooms, which are spread over seven floors (numbers 3 to 9), have tiny balconies and look out over the park in Erzsébet tér and St Stephen's Basilica. The deluxe rooms with two windows are a real plus as is the atrium cafe, whose glorious stained-glass dome can be viewed from both top and bottom. And it's the little things, as they say... Inside the desk drawer of the deluxe and executive guestrooms is a little box of office supplies: a tiny stapler, pair of scissors, rubber bands etc. Now that's what we call getting down to business!
