Address: Margitsziget , Budapest 1138, Hungary Show on map
Built in the late 19th century on Margaret Island, this comfortable (rather than grand) and tranquil hotel has all the mod cons and is connected via a heated underground corridor to its ugly step-sister, the Danubius Thermal Hotel Margitsziget, where you can take the waters for free.Though this is a fine choice for any visitor to Budapest, it particularly suits those who are here less to see the sights and more to relax, perhaps by having treatments at the Thermal or walking around verdant Margaret Island at sunset. Though some of the 164 rooms have balconies, views of the Danube and Pest from the river-facing rooms are not so spectacular; instead be satisfied with the sea of greenery that is Margaret Island in season. The antique prints lining the corridors are a nice touch, but don't be put off by the rather ordinary tiled lobby that greets you on entry; the rest of the public areas are elegantly furnished.

While staying at the Grand, you shouldn't miss having one of the dozens of medicinal and homeopathic treatments available at the nearby Danubius Thermal Hotel Margitsziget.
The Grand, designed by Miklós Ybl, the architect responsible for the Hungarian State Opera House, in 1873, originally functioned as a sanatorium attached to the thermal baths. It was partially destroyed during WWII and rebuilt in the 1980s.
