Only the second hostel in La Ceiba, the Banana Republic is a welcome, if imperfect, addition for budget travelers. The rooms are fine - three private units with fan and cold water, and two spacious dorms with six beds apiece, lockers and plenty of windows. A shaded patio has tables for the free continental breakfast and a grassy yard with hammocks is perfect for chilling out.

However, it's a bit of a trek from downtown and even further to any sort of nightlife. And some travelers complain about surly service from the managers and their family, who live on-site. The hostel is run by Jungle River Tours, so you can get info and book tours here too.
